Ethiopia and Pan-Africanism; lived in the US from
1938 for 15 years until he was interned and expelled in 1953; returned to
Trinidad in 1958 to assist the PNM of Eric Williams with whom he broke
in 1960 subsequently to be frequently arrested and his work seized; returned to
live in the UK in 1962 where he worked as a novelist, critic, historian, sports
writer, and teacher; in 1986 awarded the Trinity Cross, T&T’s
highest honour; spent his last years in the UK where he died; buried in Tunapuna. See: P Buhle; and M
